SPC Flooring Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain :- The Benefits of Using Vinyl Plank Flooring Instead of Other Flooring Materials

Basically, both SPC flooring and laminate flooring are made up of 4 major layers that are called the backing, mid-layering, print finish layer and the top with wear coating. The main differences are the material used in each layers, especially the backing material. Laminates generally used on floors, while SPC is more commonly used on kitchen and bathroom floors. The main reason for this is that SPC is more durable and it is also resistant to water. This means that your laminate or SPC Flooring are virtually waterproof. On the other hand, most laminated floorings have some form of water resistance.

Most laminated flooring systems have 3 primary lamination layers including the core board, which is also referred to as the core profile or the main board, the intermediate profile or the first layer, which is called the top coat or the high wear layer, the third layer which is called the lower coat or the low wear layer and finally, there are the wear layers or the outer surface layer which is referred to as the varnish layer or the coating layer. When a manufacturer creates a SPC floor system, the manufacturer must specify which type of core and top coating is used in each individual plank in each floor system. For example, if the floor system has four plank laminates, each one will have a different core and coating, although all of the laminates will have the same wear layer or core. This can be confusing, so here is a short explanation of each type of layer as well as how it applies to your floors.

Core:

A core material is generally made of plastic, ceramic or wood fibers that are coated with resins in order to create a smooth surface. One example of a core material is polyurethane, which is a high density foam core material that can resist moisture, stains and wear. On the other hand, the most common use of a core is in flat water resistant floors like showers and kitchen sinks which are more susceptible to high humidity and moisture.

Top Coat:

A top coat layer is typically made of vinyl or stone plastic composite vinyl flooring material, which is applied on the surface of the core flooring. The purpose of this layer is to protect the top layer from moisture absorption, stains and scratches. Some manufacturers use a polyurethane coating on the top of the concrete floor as an added protective layer against moisture absorption. On the other hand, stone plastic composite vinyl SPC Flooring can also be used as a top coating but you will not have the same water resistant properties. The most common use of this type of product is to protect the stone plastic surface of tile floors, which may have been exposed to water and moisture due to the construction of the tile floor.

Coating:

Some manufacturers use a second or third layer to protect the concrete surface from moisture absorption. The second or third layer of a rigid vinyl SPC Flooring is made up of water resistant resins, which can resist moisture absorption when the surface is subjected to humidity or high temperatures. This layer is usually applied as a two-part epoxy coating. This type of product is not used in showers and bath houses.

Additional Characteristics:

Most rigid core floorings are available in a variety of sizes and thicknesses to meet any application need. Some manufacturers allow for interlocking options between the planks, which allows the SPC Flooring to lock together better and form a solid barrier against moisture. The interlocking system is more economical and allows for greater floor coverage. Additional thicknesses and widths are also available to improve the overall look and feel of your flooring.
